We went on this awesome hike. When we got to the top of this beautiful mountain there was this monument telling the story of this YW group that came on this same hike 50 years (or so) ago and were struck by lightening and killed. Can you imagine? It was sobering, I can't imagine being the leader and having to tell the parents of anything that went wrong to any of these girls. It would be horrible. But it was beautiful (and exhausting) hike.
It brought back alot of memories because we had camp in the exact place that I had Girls camp when I was a Young Woman. It has this huge and long slide and I have VERY bad memories of that slide!!! I broke my leg on it, first day of camp as a Fourth Year. So needless to say, I took the stairs.

It's ironic that you can't play with tops any more (the classic KID toy) because it could pinch your fingers - but you can "slide" (free fall) on a sheet of metal down a mountain and everyone is fine with it. I'm glad that you came back in one piece! I've haven't been to girls camp since I was one - 20 years ago. Man, I'm old.
ReplyDeleteI broke my tailbone at the bottom of that slide when I was 14!! I haven't seen it after all these years and my back hurts just looking at it...
ReplyDeleteI bet those girls loved you at Girls Camp! You are probably the best leader they could ever have.
I loved girl's camp and loved being a leader for years. I'm glad you are getting to experience that.
